Mood Journal

Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 1, 2026

Mood Journal is a local-first app for mood check-ins, personal journaling, and optional AI reflections. This policy explains what information is handled when you use the app.

Journal Entries and Mood Data

Your journal entries, mood logs, and tags are stored locally on your device by default. Mood Journal does not upload your journal or operate a server-side journal archive.

Optional AI Reflections

AI reflections are optional. When you request one, only the selected entry text or selected weekly entry excerpts needed for that request are sent securely to our reflection service and then to OpenAI to generate the response. Do not include information you do not want processed for that reflection.

The reflection service checks submitted text and generated responses for safety, enforces request quotas, and does not persist or log journal text. A pseudonymous installation identifier is transformed with a server-side HMAC before it is used for quota enforcement. It is not used as an advertising identifier.

Third-Party Services

Retention and Deletion

Journal text is not retained by our reflection service. Short-lived quota and idempotency records expire automatically. Local journal data remains on your device until you delete it in Settings or remove the app.

Important Limitations

Mood Journal is a personal journaling tool, not a medical, mental health, crisis, or emergency service. AI reflections may be inaccurate or incomplete. If you may be in immediate danger, contact local emergency services or a qualified professional.
